Intro to Shift: Learn to Climb Confidently

Walking into a bouldering gym for the very first time can feel incredibly intimidating. Seeing walls angled at steep degrees and watching experienced climbers navigate complex movements can make you feel like there is a massive barrier to entry.

Our Intro to Shift session is explicitly designed to dismantle that intimidation factor completely.

This focused, 60-minute class is built specifically for absolute beginners and those brand new to the sport. We strip away the confusing jargon and guide you through the structural essentials of modern climbing. Our goal is to hand you the keys to our 5,000 square foot facility, building your confidence in movement, safety, and gym culture so you can have an absolute blast every single time you step through our doors.

The Structural Breakdown: Figure It Out Yourself vs. Intro to Shift

While you can technically walk into any gym, rent shoes, and try to figure things out by trial and error, our guided introduction completely changes your trajectory:

Onboarding Pace

Confusing, self-directed, and often overwhelming.

Structured, supportive, and perfectly paced 60-minute lab.

Safety Blueprint

Guessing how to drop or land correctly.

Clear, mechanical mastery of proper risk management.

Movement Efficiency

Relying purely on upper-body muscle and over-gripping.

Learning to use your legs, hips, and skeletal structure.

Gym Confidence

Feeling out of place or unsure of floor etiquette.

Feeling like a regular member who knows exactly how the space flows.

Your First 60 Minutes

The class is highly collaborative, conversational, and active. Our coaching staff breaks down the session into a seamless sequence designed to transition you from a curious first-timer into a confident, independent climber.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have any upper-body strength to take this class?

This is the single biggest myth in climbing. True bouldering technique is driven almost entirely by your legs, core balance, and body positioning and not pull-ups. Our coaches show you how to use your full body rather than only arms or legs so that climbing feels natural and accessible, regardless of your current fitness level.

What should I wear and what do I need to bring?

Just show up in comfortable, athletic clothing that allows you to move and stretch freely (sweatpants, leggings, or shorts work perfectly). You don't need to purchase or bring any specialized gear—your registration completely includes your climbing shoe rental and chalk for the entire session.

How much does the Intro to Shift class cost?

We want to make starting your climbing journey as seamless as possible, so we keep the entry point incredibly straightforward. Check our registration portal below for upcoming classes. Every intro session automatically includes full-day access to our climbing walls, dedicated strength training area, and open cafe spaces.

Can I stay and climb after the 60-minute class finishes?

Absolutely! Your pass is valid for the entire day. Once the structured 60-minute class wraps up, you are totally free to hang out in our lounge, grab a local pour of Madcap Coffee, and spend the rest of the afternoon practicing your new movement patterns on our foundational circuits at your own relaxed pace.
