When you walk into the training zone at a modern bouldering gym, the bright lights and a mechanical frame of the Tension Board is sure to catch your eye.
This is an adjustable training board, specifically, our Tension Board 2 (TB2).
The Tension board 2 (TB2) is an advanced training wall, specifically designed for strengthening the muscles in your fingers and improving body tension. It works through an app that pairs to the board via bluetooth, and displays bouldering problems of varying difficulties through LED lights underneath the climbing holds. The TB2 is also fully adjustable, enabling the user to change the degree of how overhung the climbs are.
At a Glance: The Anatomy of the TB2
1. The superpower of the overhanging frame: true scalable difficulty
The TB2 changes the normal climbing dynamic through it’s angle changes. The holds on the Tension Board 2 never move, but by changing the angle of the wall, you can rewrite the physical demand of the climb:
- The Gentle Overhang (20°): At a casual angle, gravity keeps your weight centered over your feet. The holds feel positive, stable, and secure. This is the perfect angle for climbers to learn to map out sequences and build initial finger strength.
- The Aggressive Angle (60°): Take that exact same boulder problem and tilt the wall down. Now gravity pulls your hips directly away from the wall. The holds feel tougher, demanding core tension, explosive upper-body power, and precise foot technique just to stay attached.
This means you can find a movement pattern you love and adjust the angle by just a few degrees periodically, scaling the difficulty to match your exact rate of progression.
2. Eliminating Imbalances with Symmetrical Design
Every human body has a dominant side. You might notice that you naturally prefer to reach with your right hand, or that your left leg feels significantly more stable when smearing against a wall angle. Over time, traditional climbing can accidentally reinforce these imbalances.
The Tension Board 2 features a perfectly symmetrical layout. If there is a complex movement that goes to the top right of the board, an identical mirror-image of that exact move exists on the top left.
If you prefer a problem moving to the right, you can immediately flip the digital blueprint and challenge your body to execute the exact same movement to the left. This targeted symmetry forces your core, fingers, and mind to develop evenly, making you a more resilient, injury-resistant athlete.
3. A Global Climbing Community in the Palm of Your Hand
The tiltable board opens the door to a global network.
Since the hold layout on a Tension Board 2 is identical in gyms all across the world, climbers from Tokyo to Grand Rapids can log onto the smartphone app, design a custom climb, name it, assign it a difficulty grade, and upload it to the cloud.
When you connect your phone to our board via Bluetooth, you gain instant access to tens of thousands of unique climbs. You can try a boulder established by a professional athlete in Europe, or share your favorite custom creation with a friend training in another state.
