How Jordan & Asher Reimagined Homeschool PE at Shift Climbing

When organized sports weren't a fit, Jordan turned to Shift for homeschool PE, giving her son Asher a place to build strength and confidence while connecting with a warm community of local families.

Jordan: This particular PE elective is a little different than other PE electives that we have tried out through the homeschool partnerships. It's just more fun. Like my kids want to be here every week. They don't ever whine about coming. My name is Jordan, and I'm a homeschool mom to three boys. We live in Hudsonville, Michigan. We've had a great experience. So, we chose Shift because it was a PE elective that my kids seemed interested in. We didn't know what bouldering was at all, but we chose it because the boys don't love organized sports. We wanted to stay active, right? So, we chose this and it's been a lot of fun.

Asher: My name is Asher. I'm 11 years old and I love climbing because it is such an adventure. They challenge me in a very good way. Like, makes me feel like I want to do it again.

Jordan: And as a homeschooler, it's exciting to mingle here with other parents who are also homeschooling. And we get progress reports from the teachers which is wonderful because we know that our kids are growing and learning new skills. I think that they have really enjoyed their friends.

Asher: My favorite part is I get to be with friends too and climb with other people.

Jordan: And so friends that they knew maybe before but also friends that they've just gotten to know. So they look forward to seeing friends every week. Also, I think that they just really enjoy the vibes here. It seems cool. It's clean. The music's great. They've got fun snacks. They just really enjoy being here in general.

Asher: And I'm thankful that my mom signed me up for it and it's just super fun and I think it's a great place to be.
